Successful Project Management in VSTS
Today and Tomorrow
The October meeting of the Queensland VSTS Users Group will cover the very popular topic of Project Management with VSTS. While some of the session will be applicable to the 2008 version, the main focus is on the many great new features coming up in the 2010 release.
Session Abstract:
The latest Chaos report from the Standish group shows a continuation of an alarming trend of increasing project failures. From 2002 to 2008, projects that have been complete failures have increased from 15% to 24%. A further 44% of all projects are listed as “Challenged” meaning they failed to delivery the required features on time or on budget. To state the obvious, this is not a good report card.
Good Project Management is critic in helping ensure project success. Integrated ALM suites like Visual Studio Team System can greatly improve your chances of success by taking the hard work out of tracking where you project is up to and what issues are being experienced by the team.
In this session, we will look at some of the ways VSTS can help with Project Management and in particular we will take a look at the following enhancements in the upcoming VSTS2010 release.
- A look at the new Work Item types in MSF Agile – v5.0
- See how hierarchical work items make life much easier
- MS Project integration
- New Reports in TFS2010
- Project Dashboards
- The Agile Planning Workbook
- and much more…
